How to publish a sighting, what is not allowed, and how to meet someone without taking risks.
Last updated: August 31, 2026
Publishing a sighting
When you publish a sighting, your device records where you were at that moment and that location is published together with the photo. It is not hidden data: it is the heart of what makes a sighting useful, and also a precise record of where you were and when.
Photograph the animal, not people. If the frame includes third parties, licence plates, building fronts or house numbers that are not needed to recognise the pet, frame it another way or do not publish it. What you upload stays visible to anyone with the link, outside the app as well.
Do not publish sightings you did not make, and do not reuse photos from other posts or from the internet. A false sighting is not a joke: it diverts the search for a lost animal towards a place where it never was.
Conduct and moderation
Harassing anyone, publishing other people's personal data, impersonating identities, using the platform to sell animals, and claiming as your own a pet that is not, are not allowed.
Any post can be reported from the app. We review the reports and we may take down content or close accounts where appropriate.
Meeting in person
Echo is a tool for meeting. What happens afterwards happens outside the app and at your own judgement.
Meet in a public, busy place, in broad daylight, and take someone with you if you can. Do not share your address with someone you have just met here.
Notifications
We notify each person only once per post. If someone has already been tagged in a sighting, tagging them again does not send them a new notification —we tell you so when you comment— so insisting only adds noise to the conversation.
