What Echo does, what it does not do, and what you take on when you publish, link a sighting or offer a reward.

Echo publishes, it does not verify

Echo is a space where people publish what they have lost and what they have seen. We do not check that a pet exists, that it belongs to whoever says it is theirs, that a photo matches the animal described, or that a sighting happened where it says it did.

Everything you read here was written by a person, not by Echo. Use the same judgement you would use with any notice published by a stranger.

Whoever published the search is the only person who can link a sighting to it, and they do so under their own responsibility. It is their claim that they recognise their pet, not a verification by Echo nor a confirmation from the person who reported the sighting.

Nobody else approves that link. If another person tags you in a sighting, it is a suggestion: the decision is still yours.

The same sighting can belong to more than one search. Two pets can look alike, and two people can recognise their own in the same photo. A sighting being linked to a search does not mean that Echo has established any relationship between the two.

Linking by mistake is not an offence, but correcting it is the responsibility of whoever linked: you can remove a sighting from your trail at any time.

If your sighting joins a search

When someone links your sighting to their search, we let you know. We do not tell you who it was or which search: only how many searches your post is helping.

You are not asked to authorise each link. You published a sighting so that someone would recognise it, and that is exactly what happened.

While your sighting is part of an active search, you will not be able to delete it. Someone is searching with it, and withdrawing it would leave that search without one of its clues. It becomes yours to delete again as soon as that person removes it from their trail or closes their search.

If you need to delete a post for an urgent reason — because it exposes your home address, a minor or a third party — write to us and we will take it down.

Rewards

A search may offer a reward. Echo does not manage it, does not hold it, does not guarantee it and does not mediate if there is a disagreement. The commitment is between the two people.

Be wary of anyone who asks for money up front, demands a payment to reveal a location, or pushes to close the deal outside the app. Hand over any amount only when you have the animal with you, and in a public place.
