The trail, and why it is not public

The sightings linked to a search form a trail: where and when the pet was seen, in order. That trail is only consulted inside the app, with an account.

On this website, a shared post shows only how many sightings are linked to it. Never the locations or the dates.

The reason is not the privacy of the person searching, but the safety of the animal. A public sequence of coordinates and times for a loose animal —above all if its search offers a reward— is a map for intercepting it before the person responsible for it does.

Your data

We store what Echo needs in order to work: your account, your posts, the locations you record when publishing and the content you upload. Public posts are visible to anyone with the link, inside and outside the app.

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by writing to us. Bear in mind the limitation described in the terms of use: a sighting that is part of an active search is not deleted until it stops being part of it. To close your account completely, read Deleting your account.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from the app, whenever you want and without asking anyone. We ask for your password first, because it is an action that cannot be undone.

When you delete it we erase your personal data: your email, your password, your name, your profile photo and the locations we store about you. We close all your sessions and deregister your devices, so you stop receiving notifications immediately.

Your searches, donations and adoption posts are withdrawn. A post that nobody can answer or close any more is of no use to anyone, and leaving it open would make other people spend effort in vain. We do not mark them as resolved: that would claim the pet was found.

Your sightings remain, without your name. It is the only exception, and there is a reason for it: someone may be using them right now to find their animal, and withdrawing them would leave that search without its clues. They stop being associated with you or with any data of yours.

There is no way to undo it. You can register again with the same email, but it will be a new account: you will not recover your posts, your conversations or your history.
